The Madison County Board of Health meets the 2nd Thursday of EVERY OTHER MONTH
in the lower level of the Madison County Annex located at 201 W. Court.
The meeting is called to order at 7:00 P.M.
Administers and enforces county Board of Health Regulations in regards to Environmental Health.
Duties of the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) are, including but not limited to, performing environmental health services (i.e. well and septic system permitting and inspection). The EHO ensures the aforementioned duties are consistent with state and county laws and regulations. In addition, the EHO is responsible for investigating nuisance complaints relating to septic systems, trash and unsanitary conditions, open burning, animal abuse, and rabies exposure. The EHO is responsible for the administration of the Grants-to-Counties (GTC) program for the Madison County. The GTC program was established in 1987 when the State of Iowa legislature passed the Iowa Groundwater Protection Act to help prevent further contamination of one of Iowa’s most precious resources (e.g. groundwater). Grants are made available to Madison County Public Health to provide financial assistance to Madison County residents for private well water services.
